Those Who Serve - Monthly Schedule

Confirmation...

Confirmation (6-8th grade) in Zehnder Chapel... Confirmation at Ascension is a three year program for 6, 7, & 8th grade students. Through multimedia and small groups the students will learn how the 10 Commandments and Lord's Prayer apply to their lives. They will grow in relationship with each other and their families by sharing their highs & lows, praying together, and sharing a blessing. Confirmation will also include servant events, fellowship time and weekend retreats. Megan Miessler is the leader of Confirmation.

Confirmation Expectations:

Confirmation is when middle school students are taught the basic teachings of the Lutheran church so that when they have completed the program they will be able to reaffirm their baptismal vows. At Ascension, Confirmation is a three year program for 6th, 7th & 8th grade students. During these three years the confirmands will participate in small groups, servant events, home huddles and fellowship events. They will also be expected to complete sermon notes to help them better understand the message Pastor Mulder shares on Sunday Morning.

Outline of Expectations of Confirmands and Parents:

o Attend 80% of the Sunday Morning events that take place in Fellowship Hall from 9:40-10:30 am.

o Serve once as a family at the Coalition for the Homeless. (You need to sign up for this event in advance. Please contact Megan Miessler)

o Participate in Home Huddles every night as outlined in the confirmand's Living Journal. Each confirmand will need to have their parents sign their Journal each week and bring it to the Sunday Morning event.

      o Complete 2 sermon notes a month.

o Each confirmand is expected to attend the Middle School Gathering. (No one should not attend due to financial reasons; the youth has funds set aside to help families in need)

o Each confirmand is expected to attend Fellowship Events that take place within the youth group. These include events like Worship On the Beach, Jr. High Nites, Night of Joy, SAK night…etc.

o Confirmands are expected to attend the Saturday Sessions being held on January 26th and April 12th.

o On May 3rd, the 6th and 7th graders will hold a celebration for the 8th graders who will confirmed. All confirmands are expected to participate in this event.

Home Huddles:

Home huddles happen "every night in every home." It is a simple five-step process that will keep your family communicating. The Living Journal will connect what the confirmand is learning at church with family conversation at home by following these five simple steps each night:

      1. Share highs & lows of the day

      2. Read & highlight the verse of the day in your Bible

      3. Talk about how today's verse relates to your highs & lows

      4. Pray for your highs & lows

      5. Bless one another using the weekly blessing provided.

Fall 2008 Schedule:  coming soon

Sermon Notes

Medical Release and Permission Form

Sermon Notes are a new requirement for the Confirmands this year. The purpose of Sermon Notes is first of all to teach the confirmands how to listen to a sermon and second to encourage the confirmands to attend worship. Each confirmand will be required to complete two sermon notes a month. Therefore, six sermon notes will need to be given to Megan Miessler no later than December 9th. You may turn in your sermon notes at anytime throughout the year. Below is a link for the Sermon Note form. Please use this form when completing your sermon notes. (Click on the note to download and print.)

Medical Release & Permission Form... Any youth wishing to participate in any youth event must download this form and have it filled out and signed by their parent or guardian. This form must be turned into Megan Miessler. (Click on the note to download and print.)
