The mission of the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, Inc., is to address the needs of the homeless in the community and to serve as a catalyst for community collaboration to end
homelessness. To do this we strive to return homeless individuals to lives of independence through case management, education and job training.

People of Ascension are contributing to the work of the Coalition in many ways. One of the efforts we make is to prepare and serve an evening meal on
the second Friday of each month to residents of the Men's Pavilion Shelter and persons from the neighborhood who are hungry and can not afford food. Volunteers arrive at the Ascension kitchen at 8:00 AM to butter
bread, cook an entree, prepare a vegetable dish, cook pasta and put together a salad. Other volunteers bake 400 brownies at home and bring them to the kitchen during the morning. The meal is then served in the
Pavilion at 6:45 PM by volunteers from our Youth Group and others.
Every Monday morning, Ascension volunteers take the Coalition's 15 passenger van to Walt Disney World where the service staff of twelve
resort hotels save soap, shampoo, toilet paper and other personal care items to contribute to the Coalition for use by the residents. These supplies are all items which would otherwise be thrown away because of
condition or appearance.
Volunteers from Ascension assist the staff of the Coalition during community events which publicize or aid the Coalition in it's mission. Examples include food drives and United
Way events.
During the month of December the people of Ascension purchase sweaters, socks and underwear for residents of the three shelters of the coalition as Christmas gifts.
During the month of
July the people of Ascension purchase a "back to school" outfit for each child living in the Coalition.
Lorri Highet, Director of Volunteer Services at the Coalition is always seeking more
volunteers (Even additional groups to prepare and serve food). You may e-mail her at:
