It is with mixed feelings of sadness and yet thankful joy that we witness the end of the Hispanic worship service at Ascension, effective June 29, 2008. With the strong support of the Florida-Georgia District and
a full commitment by the Ascension congregation, Pastor Roberto Rojas began work in our community in 1998, and Pastor Angel Perez succeeded him in 2002. Pastor Perez puts it this way, "we have a few families, 25
in total, which were never part of a Christian church and, thanks to the evangelistic efforts of Ascension, they now have their Lord and Savior in their hearts. I personally believe that Ascension has done its job
and reached its objective of evangelizing to the Hispanic community. Many of our families are ready to move on to the contemporary service at Ascension, Principe de Paz (Prince of Peace), or Esperanza Viva (Hope)
Lutheran churches. Brothers and sisters, we should not feel sad or at fault if this service comes to an end. These families will find a church of worship with the seed that has been planted in rich soil." We are
grateful for the time and energy of Pastor and Maria Perez who have traveled each weekend from their retirement home in Port Richey since the first Sunday in February. The Ascension staff, as well as the Hispanic
pastors of the congregations listed above, will help our Hispanic brothers and sisters find a home for worship. It is noteworthy that some of our Hispanic families live hear Prince of Peach/Principe de Paz (Curry
Ford and 436) or Hope/Esperanza Viva (Dean Road).
