WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:
Our reaction to The Promise, Jesus, can be a faithful one by seeking, telling and being open to God's love.Activity: Video and Game Card Trading Card:
Jesus and Simeon Summary:
As the story of Jesus' birth unfolds before them, children use their trading cards to identify the main characters. Primary children play a game of matching with the trading cards while Intermediate children match characters to their reactions to God's promise on game cards. Children learn that God's promise, Jesus, gives them a new way of living with love, hope, and meaning that they can share with others.
COOKING WORKSHOP: Lynn Ayres
Our reaction to The Promise, Jesus, can be a faithful one by seeking, telling and being open to God's love. Activity: Baking and eating Promise Shortcake Trading Card: "Me"
Summary:
As children make Promise Shortcake, they learn that The Promise God gave to us is Jesus. As they make and eat Promise Shortcake, they fill the shortcake and themselves with ingredients that reflect all that Jesus is to them. Children further learn what their reaction to The Promise of Jesus can be.
MUSIC WORKSHOP: Maggie Mackie & Tia Nelson
Our reaction to The Promise, Jesus, can be a faithful one by seeking, telling and being open to God's love. Activity: Song: "Go, Tell It On The Mountain" Trading Card:
The Shepherds Summary: Dressed as shepherds, children pretend they are the shepherds sitting and watching their sheep on the hillside overlooking Bethlehem. As they sit quietly watching the stars
overhead, the Angel of the Lord suddenly appears to them. Children discuss their reaction to the angel's appearance and learn of the shepherd's reaction of seeking and telling. They learn the song Go Tell it on
the Mountain to remind them that God wants them to tell others of Jesus' birth.
ART WORKSHOP: Riane Thompson (1st Sunday) and Amy Thomason
Advent Calendar Trading Card: Mary & Joseph
Summary: The children will examine how Mary and Joseph react to the surprise of a baby, God's son. While creating an Advent calendar, the children will learn that through all things God works for the good of those who love him and they will understand that when faced with difficult situations today, they can react with trust in Jesus. |

"He said to them, 'Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive
the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.' And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them." ~ Mark 10:14-16
